Get ready to laugh, cry, and reflect with Second Shot at Love, tvN’s newest K-drama set to premiere this May. The show promises to touch viewers’ hearts with an original, heartfelt story that blends romance, comedy, and meaningful themes such as overcoming harmful habits—all set in a peaceful village full of surprises.
Second Shot at Love follows the life of Han Geum Ju, played by Sooyoung (from Girls’ Generation), a strong, independent woman with a passion for cars. Raised in a family where alcoholism was common, Geum Ju earned the reputation of being “the woman who drinks better than men.” However, she decides to turn her life around when she realizes her drinking habits are holding her back. Her new mission? Stay sober and reconnect with self-love.
On the other side of the story is Seo Ui Jun, played by Gong Myoung, a doctor who left the hustle and bustle of a university hospital in Seoul to work at a health center in the quiet village of Bocheon. He strongly believes alcohol is never the answer—and can be as dangerous as any illness.
When Geum Ju and Ui Jun meet, their opposing views on life and drinking clash, leading to a series of disastrous encounters, hilarious moments, and an unlikely romance that blooms with each attempt to put the bottle down.
The dynamic between Geum Ju and Ui Jun is set to be the highlight of Second Shot at Love. She’s a skilled mechanic with ten years of experience at one of Korea’s largest car manufacturers—used to fixing problems with a wrench and a glass of soju. He’s a calm, focused doctor committed to helping others find a healthier path.
The drama’s humor shines from the very first scenes, with quirky situations like a tug-of-war between Geum Ju’s desire to drink and Ui Jun’s efforts to keep her sober. But the series also brings moments of deep emotion and reflection on family trauma, self-acceptance, and the power of second chances.
In the official teaser, we get a taste of classic romance: Geum Ju and Ui Jun dancing at sunset by Bocheon Lake. The scene feels like it’s straight out of a movie—until it’s hilariously interrupted when Geum Ju stumbles due to drunkenness. This comic twist makes it clear that this love story is anything but conventional.
The caption at the end of the teaser perfectly sums up the spirit of the drama: “I met someone even harder to quit than alcohol.”
The chemistry between the leads is already evident in the first promotional images, and promises to win over audiences with a blend of lightheartedness and emotional depth.
Second Shot at Love premieres on May 12 in South Korea on tvN. There’s no official confirmation yet on which platform will stream the drama internationally, but you can stay up-to-date right here on Kdrama Universe, your go-to source for everything K-drama.
