On January 1, 2025, Zhao Lusi took to social media to share an honest and emotional message about her physical and mental health. Here’s the full statement:
“This is my first and last response to everything that’s happened recently. I sincerely apologize for occupying public attention. Before this, I never allowed illness to affect my work or those around me. I also acknowledge my own faults. It’s because I tend to bear too much on my own that it took me the last half month to realize that deep down, I’m not as generous or tolerant as people might think. Therefore, I too am responsible.
My profession has given me so much help and support, for which I am truly grateful and feel extremely lucky. So, I can understand all the misunderstandings that may have arisen…”
The actress detailed not only her current battles but also traumatic experiences from her childhood and adolescence. Zhao Lusi revealed that she has been struggling with depression since 2019, alongside other severe health issues like pneumonia, emphysema, and chronic hives, which have worsened in recent years.
Zhao Lusi shared that she faced abuse at a young age and was discouraged from seeking help. The accumulated emotional pressure impacted her physical health, leading to a recent breakdown. In her statement, she emphasized the importance of taking mental health seriously:
“Depression as an emotion is different from depression as a disorder. It cannot simply be resolved by ‘thinking positively’ or ‘talking it out.’ Understanding and learning about psychological illnesses and prioritizing treatment is extremely important.”
She also encouraged others facing similar challenges to seek professional help, highlighting that support can make all the difference during tough times.
Zhao Lusi’s bravery in sharing her story not only showcases her strength but also raises awareness about mental health. As fans and admirers, we wish her a full recovery and a journey filled with resilience and success.
